Dans le vaudou les sacrifices d’animaux sont fréquent. Certains sorciers vont dire que c’est de la magie noire, mais dans le vaudou, il n’y a pas de magie blanche ou de magie noire. Il n’y a que des esprits, des esprits des eaux, des esprits du feu, des esprits des morts, des esprits guerriers, et pour tout ces types d’esprits il y a des sacrifices d’animaux. Par chez nous, il est de coutume de sacrifier régulièrement un animal pour faire une garde. Une garde, c’est une protection. L’animal sert d’offrande à l’esprit invoqué et en échange vous lui demander la protection. La protection ou devrai je dire, la garde, va agir comme un bouclier, quelqu’un va faire un acte sur vous, vous n’aurez pas le temps de le sentir qu’il se retournera sur la personne directement, même pas besoin de bouger. Vous pouvez offrir un animal aux esprits pour demander autre chose, des biens matériels, la justice sur une affaire, du travail, de l’argent, de l’amour. Tout ça c’est pas du noir ! Ce qui est noire, ce sont les intentions des humains, mais les esprits ne sont ni noire, ni blanc, ni rien, du moins tel que le terme magie blanche ou magie noire l’entend en occident. Les esprits ont des couleurs, mais on fait autant de sacrifices pour les esprits blancs que pour les esprits noires. Par exemple pour Damballah qui est un lwa dont la couleur est le blanc, on sacrifie des colombes au nombre de 7, 12, ou 21. Pour certains esprits du feu ça sera un cochon noir ou une poule noire voir plusieurs. Pour les esprits des morts on préférera les bêtes à cornes comme les cabris ou les taureaux. Bien sure, même si à l’aide du sacrifice vous faites une garde, ça ne vous empêche pas de demander tout ce que vous voulez (argent, amour, travail, vengeance et autres), quand on fait la garde, on fait la liste de tous ce que l’on veut obtenir, de tous nos amis pour qu’ils soient protéger avec nous, et de tous nos ennemis. Et ça, ce n’est pas de la sorcellerie, c’est de la spiritualité. C’est comme ça qu’on sert et on marche avec les esprits.

For the spirits of the deaths we shall prefer horned animals as kids or bulls. Indeed sure, even if by means of the sacrifice you make a nurse, that does not prevent you from asking for all that you want (money, love, work, vengeance and the others), when we make the nurse, we make the list of all what we want to obtain, of all our friends so that they are to protect with us, and from all our enemies. And that, it is not of the witchcraft, it is of the spirituality. It is like that that we serve and we work with the spirits.
